How come you get depressed when you quit smoking?

Is it an actual side effect of nicotine leaving your body? I have quit smoking a million times and usually find myself lighting back up cause I can’t stand the misery.

But this time i’ve lasted over a month. I feel great. I’m not depressed anymore. Tho i’ve had heaps of bad shit happen to me while trying to quit, i’m pretty happy.

But my poor husband gave up smoking 4 days ago. And he’s miserable. Everything to him is negative. I hate to see him this way. I was that way too!

Is there anything to help him not be depressed. Or do you just have to get through those evil 2 weeks without smoking and it will go away. Is there a magic vitiman?

Why it’s so hard to stop

For a number of individuals it is extremely hard to quit smoking cigarettes. In this video clip experts from the Mayo Clinic explain the reason why. The movie demonstrates the method in which cigarettes deliver nicotine to the human brain triggering changes in the brain that lead to dependancy. Whenever a particular person stops smoking cigarettes they frequently experience challenging withdrawal symptoms and strong desires to light up. The cravings and withdrawal symptoms help make stopping very difficult for many people who smoke.

How did you manage to quit smoking?

I want to quit smoking. I’ve tried several times before but the longest I’ve ever lasted was 1 week. My husband has agreed to quit with me but the last time we tried that we nearly killed each other. I know there is no easy way but some tips would be appreciated. How did you manage to quit? I know the nicotine is out of your system in just a few days but does the desire to smoke ever go away?

What is the best way to quit smoking cigarettes for good?

Any over the counter medications? Home remedies, anything…. I have some commit lozenges and nicotine gum. I am 25 and have been smoking off and on since 15 and heavily since 19. It is time to quit! Any advice from former smokers (or non-smokers if you have any good tips!) would be greatly appreciated. I plan to quit tomorrow.

How hard is it to quit smoking?

I’m planning on quitting starting Aug 21st. My reason is so i can live longer for my child, plus he has asthma and i don’ t want the cigarette smoke in my clothes anymore when he breathes it in. Another reason is gas prices are so high now and between gas prices and buying cigarettes i spend at least -0 a month. This will be my first time ever doing this, i don’t even know how to quit or avoid the cravings. I really can’t afford the smoking cessation classes (don’t know if i spelled the word right lol) i just want to do it on my own. I already know that the nicotine gum won’t work because i already chew gum when i’m smoking a cigarette. Need advice please and thank you to all!
I have people that will support me, like my boyfriend (he wants me to quit also), co-workers, my mom said she’ll support me but she smokes too and i live with her, i know other family members will be willing to help me.

Do you feel lousy when you quit smoking?

I’ve quit smoking and I am on my 5th day! However, I feel really ill … just feel like crap.  I feel like i wanna throw up!! Lost my appetite, can’t consentrate  and I’ve got no energy at all.  I just wondered if this could be withdrawal symptoms from not smoking? And i’m using nicotine patch , gum , and nasal spray! thanks !

Quit Smoking Advice

Everyone needs some encouragement and this video can help you keep moving in the right direction.

These clips are from the BBC: Horizon documentary series entitled “We Love Cigarettes”. The advice Allen Carr gives is pretty damn good, it convinced me (a 5 year smoker) to quit cold turkey. It has been a couple months now and I’m still going strong. Update: It has been over one year since my last cigarette and I have never been tempted to look back. I really hope this simple advice has helped someone else.
