Quit smoking?

I want to quit so bad. For me, it is really hard. My husband knows I want to quit really bad. He came home with some Nicorette gum. He said he heard that the patches have long term affects of some kind. The gum has nicotine in it. How is that going to work when it has nicotine. Cigarettes have nicotine. I’m trying to not have nicotine in my body. Why is it so hard for me?

Quit Smoking!?

Does anyone have any new/creative/interesting or sucessful tricks or ideas on how to quit smoking? I’ve been smoking for abou 2-3 years now and when my mom died at the age of 47 from lung cancer (though hers was not smoking related), I promised her I would quit. Just recently I found out her mother has emphysethmia, and my father is also a smoker (for many years) and is short of breath often. (He lives with me so it is tough when I decide to quit, if he still smokes). Also, I had a PE, or Pulmonary Embolism (blood clot in the lung) in the past 2 years that could’ve been fatal, and I have a 3 year old who I want to live a long healthy life for. No, I don’t smoke around her. Plus, I just don’t enjoy smoking anymore, b/c of the smell, the health risks, it gives me headaches, but the nicotine has got a strong hold on me. Please help if you can! Thank you!
First off, I am an adult so I have been to school and gone through health classes that showed pictures of dieased lungs, so obviously that didn’t work. Do you know what is worse than looking at those pics? Seeing your own mom die from lung cancer. And to tell the truth, when I started smoking, I didn’t care about myself or my body. Thank you to the serious and non-offensive people. I am only human and I make mistakes too. I am now trying to rectify that.
Natalie, someone as dim as u r should’ve been able to spell the word stupid since u probably hear it often. Anyway, try growing up in a house in which your parents smoke and make it seem like it’s no big deal.

Quit Smoking: The 10 Step Plan

Sian Welby talks to Dr Chris Steele about the addictive and harmful effects of nicotine. Dr Chris explains that nicotine is, milligram for milligram, more addictive than heroin and cocaine. Within 7 seconds of drawing on a cigarette the nicotine will be acting on the brain. This is why it can be so hard to quit. One in two of all smokers will be killed by it. It is the most dangerous consumer product available on the market. Nicotine itself is not dangerous, but when you smoke you breath in more than 4000 other chemicals – this is what makes it lethal. With smoking still growing among your girls, there is a big health issue here. Although the smoking ban is helping, the enduring appeal of the “cool” look associated with cigarettes makes them attractive to young people. But there is help. Nicotine replacement treatments can remove the craving for cigarettes, without damaging your health. Also available on prescription are treatments such as Zyban and Champix.

How do I convince somebody to quit smoking? My friend has been smoking for 7 years?

My friend has been smoking for 7 years and she knows that’s it’s bad for her health, and etc. Sometimes she wants to quit but sometimes not. She’s tried quitting a couple of times. Once with a patch, once with the nicotine gum, but then she starts again. I really want to help but she says she’s really addicted, and too stressed out to be able to quit, and that she also doesn’t want to gain weight. I don’t know how to make her want to quit so bad that she would. Please help!!

How long does it take to quit smoking?

I know each person is different, but about how long does it take for the cravings to go away. I can restraint from a cigarette for 8 hours each day at work, and have gone as long as 12 hours when I was on a trip with students. However, the minute the opportunity arises I’m having a cigarette. I crave the act of smoking much more than the nicotine I recieve from it (nicotine gum makes me crave a cigarette). I’ve tried to quit unsuccessfully and find if I don’t have access to them, the nicotine cravings occur about every 4-6 hours while the craving for a cigarette occurs ever 15-30 minutes. How long would it take for these cravings to disappear?

If you don’t understand the difference between craving a cigarette and craving the nicotine I don’t really know how to explain it to a non-smoker. Sorry.
