What is the easiest way to quit smoking when you find out you are pregnant?

I have been smoking for way too many years, and now that I am pregnant, I REALLY want to quit. I have found it is one of the hardest things I have ever had to do…. HELP!!!!!

  1. Think about the fact that the placenta is chilled around your baby for 3 minutes when you smoke and you are cutting off oxygen to the brain.

  2. Look at those nasty lung pictures of cancer patients. I’m sure you can also find some kind of video of how it’s affecting your unborn child too. You can do anything you can put your mind to.

  3. well to tell you the truth I didnt find it hard at all. As soon as i found out i said no more smoking! Now what you can do is talk to your doctor about it…. ive heard that some people that have been smoking for a very very long time and quit smoking while being pregnant has a bigger effect on the fetus then if you keep smoking. I would talk to your doctor about it! But good luck in the meen while and just think about your little baby inside you and that should help you not smoke!

  4. This might sound so stupid but I swear it works!!, my freinds mum got a hypnotist and she’s never smoked since!! the down side is it costs alot and you must have alot of will power for it too work, i would search it up anyway coz i know a few people whove had it dun and nearlly all of them hav stopped smoking, hope this heleped 🙂

  5. Knowing that you could adversely effect the health of your child should be enough for you and I’ve heard it does work. You could miscarry or have a stillborn child or have a baby so underdeveloped that he or she doesn’t make it through his or her first year. If he or she does, think about how hard his or her life will be because of health problems because you were selfish while pregnant and smoked even though you knew it was bad for the baby. Look at pictures of children with birth defects caused by smoking and think long and hard about whether you want that for your child.

I’ve never smoked, but I understand it’s not completely mental and while some people may be able to give it up based on just the knowledge of how horrible it is, you might need physical help as well. I’m not sure if the patch or gum is safe while pregnant, so you might have to go all natural. Take a walk or call a friend when a craving hits, or try chewing gum if you have some sort of oral fixation or if it’s that you have to do something with your hands, take up knitting and make your baby a blanket. Good luck!

  6. i was a smoker(12 yrs) and it is HARD but possible, things that helped me 1.) when some1 lit up i’d kinda jus go away for a bit and pop a jolly rancher 2.) i read a lot about the effects on my baby so any time i really thought i wanted 1 or would even go to bum "jus 1 drag" from some 1 the thought of SIDS asthma undeveloped lungs etc. would go through my mind and id pop a jolly rancher, i was really irritable for about 2 wks but i rarely even get cravings anymore and i even just broke my jolly rancher addiction:) good luck to you and congrats

  7. I have smoked for 4 years now and I am 6 weeks and 5 days prego with #2. I did not smoke with my first child. I was told by my OB that if I were to quit it would cause more harm to the baby, so she told me to cut back. I smoked 6 a day and now in down to 3, one in the am, one after lunch, and one during the evening. My sister in law was told the same thing by her OB last year when she was prego. She gave birth to a healthy baby boy last August and he has shown no signs of asthma or anything else. She smoked a pack a day and cut back to 5 a day.

  8. im 26 and smoked from the time i was 15-24.
the day i found out i was preg, i quit. it was the best thing i ever did. not only for myself but for my son.
quitting caffeine was more difficult for me than the cigs.

    think about this…
everytime you take a draw off of a cig the baby stops breathing and their little heart stops beating.
i saw that video in nursing school about 5 yrs ago…
they took a woman who was 30 weeks preg to her ob/gyn. they took her to the u/s and all was good.. they asked her to light up and take a draw..when she did you could see the heart stop and the baby stop breathing… it changed me forever. i never saw a reason to quit for myself but now that i have my beautiful son… i will never do it again.
i want to be around for him when he is older and im not going to subject him to the harms of cig smoke just b/c i have a bad habit

iknow it is hard…. but it is worth it…. you have to think about that baby now…

the thing w/ smoking while preg…. alot of times the problems dont show until they are 1-5 yrs old. (asthma, ear infections, more colds…etc)

  9. I would think that the fact that there is a baby inside depending on you for its healthy development would be incentive enough to quit. The baby’s health and proper development in the womb is dependent on the mother’s choices. Think about it that way.
