How can I quit smoking without going insane?

I want to quit smoking cigarettes so that exercising will be easier… I always feel bad about myself when I smoke a cigarette after working out, and I really want to lose those last 10 pounds. I’m not really mentally ready to quit, but I really need to save the money. But… all my friends smoke and it’s going to be hard hanging out with them while they smoke. Also, I don’t want to gain the weight that nearly everyone gains when they quit smoking. Can you offer any advice?

  1. First of all, no matter how much one wants to quit, no one is ever ready to quit smoking. You just decide to do it then quit.
Remove all ashtrays and smoking paraphernalia from your living environment.
Your friends need to support you in your decision to quit smoking and refrain from smoking around you in the beginning. They aren’t friends if the don’t support you.
Drink a lot of water to flush the nicotine from your system.
You may find Altoids Sours help relieve your cravings.
Do not engage in activities that you associate with smoking.
Engage yourself in some activity or exercise that will help you realise your goal of losing ten pounds.
The reason people gain weight is because they are substituting food for nicotine. Don’t fall into that trap.
ALWAYS remember that when you do crave nicotine (and you will have very strong cravings for it that will decrease in intensity with time), that craving will be gone in five minutes or less. Don’t give in to the craving.
Quit cold turkey, it’s still the most effective way. Other methods are just prolonging the agony.
The first three to four days are the worst, then it gets easier.
Reward yourself for your endurance in quitting on occasion.

Best of luck to you. You’ll feel better for it.

  2. I am going cold turkey, I tried the patch and the gum and they did not work. Cold turkey is working, but I am goping a bit nuts. Good luck to you

  3. Chewing on cinnamon toothpicks can help with the "habit" of doing something with your hands and cravings,it helped me quit for 18 months…I smoke again though….my willpower sucks!…xxx

  4. The first 3 days after quitting are normally the hardest, depending how much you smoke everyday

Who knows, maybe one of your friends might want to try to quit too, especially since smoking can leave a hole in your wallet.
Push yourself to try Cold Turkey. Good luck.

  5. Lol i just stopped smoking yesterday and this is my 4th try. i have come to the realization that you just have to tell yourself i am done and that’s it. i know its easy to slip back but you just have to remind yourself that you quit and that is that. don’t forget to exercise daily as to control weight gain. even a 20 minute walk is good. get gum. either nicotine gum or regular as to help the oral fixation. do not use nicotine gum if you are on the patch. you will make yourself ill. and ask your friends not to smoke around you for the 1st few weeks. if they are good friends they will respect you and your choice. lastly good luck and remember even if you slip stay strong

  6. You might want to try those electronic cigarettes. I have alot of friends who have quit with those, and alot who use them as alternative smoking methods. So some quit with it, some smoke with it – but many have gotten away from the traditional cigarette, smells, and all of the stuff that is not wanted from smoking.

So if your interested, check out http://smoke-anywhere.org , they offer a fair price, and the product is easy to use -its not like the other ones out there which require nicotine mg vials, and dropping liquid etc. Its just simply 2 pieces, you screw it on and you smoke it – when its gone you put another on. Also it saves money, because you can smoke the equivalent of a carton for only 15$. They also have alot of flavors – regular, menthol, chocolatee, vanilla, coffee, etc.

Its quite the interesting device — I think why this is so popular and proven to work is because its the only item out there to smoke that youactuallyy smoke, and it feels like you are smoking in the back of your throat, but without all those nasty poisons/chemicals found in tobacco cigarettes.

Something to think about it – has no smell, and no flames/ashes – this would be a good method to try. IF you can afford to smoke, you can afford that product mentioned above. I smoked over a pack a day, and spent over 180$ a month on cigarettes. Now I havent smoked in months, and I am saving over 150$ a month by using that. Its WIN WIN – your family and friends are happy you arent smoking, and you are happy because you are still kind of. ha ha.

    Good luck!

  7. I know how you feel. My dad smokes a lot and I help him a lot.The best way to quit is to do something you enjoy when you feel the need to smoke and just keep telling yourself you can do it. i’m 9 and that’s what my teachers say.

    may god bless your soul.
